Digital signage player: Android TV, Windows PC or browser

The DigiSign digital signage player runs on three kinds of device: Android TV boxes and sticks (and other compatible Android devices), Windows PCs, and supported browsers on a display or an attached computer. DigiSign sells no media player of its own and there is no proprietary hardware to buy, so the screens a business already owns become the network once a compatible device is connected to them. Displays, mounts, players and installation are separate from the software price.

Pairing works the same way on every platform. Install the free player, or open the browser player, and it shows a pairing code. Type that code into your DigiSign dashboard, name the screen for its location, and it appears there ready for content. Each player is bound to its device on pairing and holds its own scoped token, so a code that leaks cannot be used to take over your screens. Start with one representative screen and your own media before repeating the setup across locations.

Android TV boxes, sticks and Android devices

Retail windows, menu boards, lobbies and waiting areas: any display with a spare HDMI input where a small Android device can sit behind the screen, and Android-based displays that can run the player directly.

What you need

  • A display with an HDMI input, or a display that runs a compatible Android version itself
  • A compatible Android TV box or stick, or another compatible Android device, on a supported operating-system version; confirm the exact model with the team
  • Power at the screen and a wired or Wi-Fi network connection
  • A DigiSign account; the 7-day trial needs no card

Steps

  1. Prepare a representative display: check resolution, portrait or landscape orientation, viewing distance, power and network access.
  2. Create your account and obtain the Android player from the dashboard, confirming the supported version for your device. Keep the account details and the pairing code private.
  3. Install and open the player on the device; it displays a pairing code.
  4. In the dashboard, enter that code, name the screen for its location, and check that it reports online before assigning content.
  5. Create a small test playlist with a real image, a video and any live app you need, publish it, and inspect the physical display for readable text, cropping, playback and audio.
  6. Test a scheduled change between two real playlists, verifying the timezone and repeat pattern, and record the result before adding more screens.

Check on your device

  • Cached playback of downloaded media depends on the device, its available storage and an active licence; confirm it on your device with your content.
  • Live apps, webpages and streams need a connection to their source, so a cached menu keeps showing while a live feed stops refreshing.
  • Background restrictions, orientation handling, video decoding and restart behaviour differ between Android devices; verify each on the exact model before ordering more.
  • Remote reboot and screen on/off apply where the device supports them.

No public app-store listing or download page is published on this site for the Android player; installation starts inside the DigiSign app after sign-up, where the versioned Android installer is downloaded from the dashboard and the pairing code is entered.

Windows PCs and mini PCs

Video walls, factory-floor dashboards, reception screens and kiosks, and any display already driven by a PC or a small form-factor machine.

What you need

  • A Windows PC or mini PC connected to the display, on a Windows version confirmed with the team
  • Permission to install software and to run the player at startup
  • Power and sleep settings that keep the PC awake and the display on during signage hours
  • A network connection and a DigiSign account

Steps

  1. Prepare the display and the PC together: resolution, orientation, viewing distance, power and network.
  2. Sign in to DigiSign and obtain the Windows installer from the dashboard; confirm the supported version and that you have installation permissions.
  3. Run the installer, start the player and note the pairing code it shows.
  4. Enter the code in the dashboard, name the screen for its location, and confirm it reports online.
  5. Publish a small test playlist with your own image, video and any live app, then check the physical display.
  6. Reboot the PC and confirm the player starts again on its own before testing a scheduled change between two playlists.

The Windows player is a versioned installer downloaded from the DigiSign dashboard after sign-up; this site has no separate public download page.

Browser playback on smart displays and PCs

Displays with a capable built-in browser, shared or locked-down PCs where nothing may be installed, and a quick evaluation before you choose a device.

What you need

  • A supported browser on the display or on an attached device
  • Autoplay and fullscreen allowed for the player page
  • Enough browser storage for cached media
  • A network connection and a DigiSign account

Steps

  1. Prepare the display and confirm which browser it runs and whether it can stay open unattended.
  2. Sign in to DigiSign and open the browser player on the display or the attached device.
  3. Note the pairing code the player shows.
  4. Enter it in the dashboard, name the screen for its location, and check that it reports online.
  5. Publish a small test playlist with your own media and any live app, then inspect the display for autoplay, fullscreen and embedded content.
  6. Close and reopen the browser, confirm the player returns, then test a scheduled change between two playlists.

  • What stays available without a connection depends on the browser and its storage; confirm it with your content.
  • Live apps and embedded content need connectivity.
  • Autoplay, fullscreen and sleep behaviour vary by manufacturer, and smart-TV browsers in particular must be tested before purchase.
  • Native player and browser capabilities can differ; check which status and remote actions the dashboard reports for a browser screen.

Nothing is installed: the browser player is opened from the DigiSign app after sign-up, and its pairing code is entered in the dashboard.

Test on one screen before a rollout

  • Readability from the real viewing distance: text size, contrast and line breaks in every language you publish, including Hindi, Tamil or Kannada where used.
  • Playback of your actual media on the actual device: image, video and each live app, in the orientation the screen will use.
  • A scheduled change between two real playlists, with the timezone and repeat pattern verified at the transition.
  • Network recovery: let the content download, disconnect briefly, note what keeps playing and which feeds stop, then reconnect and confirm player status and the latest published content recover.
  • A cold restart with the network off, because a running player's cache does not prove the device can start offline.
  • Who can publish to which screen group and who is responsible for support, recorded before the second screen is added.

Frequently asked questions

Only Android, Windows and supported browsers are documented as DigiSign player platforms. A smart TV that runs a compatible Android TV version, or has a browser that can run the player page, may work; a set with another operating system must be confirmed on the actual model before you rely on it. An HDMI input alone does not make a television a managed screen; connect a compatible device or evaluate the built-in browser during the trial.

Neither is a documented DigiSign platform. The documented players are Android, Windows and supported browsers, and this site does not describe a Fire TV or Raspberry Pi player. If you already own such a device, confirm the intended browser or player combination with the team before buying more, and do not assume a native installer exists for every operating system.

Players ride out network blips and keep playing from local cache, with cached playback depending on the player, the downloaded content and an active licence. Live feeds, webpages, streams and current-data apps still need connectivity, so a viewer may see an old timetable or rate unless the design makes staleness visible. Test a disconnect and a restart with your real content, then confirm status and the latest content recover on reconnection.

Each paired player counts as one screen, licensing is per screen, and a player is bound to the device it pairs on. Whether a single PC can drive more than one independently managed display is not documented on this site, so test it during the trial rather than planning on it. The documented route for different content on two displays is one player per display, with the screens grouped in the dashboard.
